Not all products offer the same performance

Weed control fabrics are enjoying increased usage as an alternative to pesticides when it comes to controlling weeds in a variety of residential and non-residential applications. When selecting landscape fabrics, one can be confronted with a bewildered choice, however, not all landscape fabrics are the same.

Typical commercial landscape fabrics are made of either woven fabrics, needle punched polypropylene nonwoven, spunbond polypropylene and also the DuPont™ Plantex® fabrics, but the various options all offer differing properties and performance. Very often, basis weight is considered as a key selection criteria, however basis weight is not an accurate parameter for the critical performance requirements a product should meet. Beside weed control, the fabrics should also offer water and air permeability, a reasonable life-time and a barrier to airborne seeds in order to make it a fully functioning choice for applications such as paths, driveways, patios, parking lots, ponds, paved areas, parks, timber decking, slopes, hedges, turfed areas and fruit and vegetable cultivation.
