Makita's Brushcutters have the latest 4-stroke motor

The latest Makita Mini 4-Stroke engine has all the features of today’s Formula 1 racing engines. It is compact, powerful, lightweight and bristles with advanced design technology. The Makita MM4 motor is currently made in 25.4cc and 33.5cc versions to power Makita brush cutters, line trimmers, water pumps and blowers. With power and torque outputs 20% to 30% greater than conventional 4-strokes of the same capacity, and on par with equivalent 2-stroke engines, the MM4 has low noise, low running costs and the cleanest exhaust emissions to meet the exacting EU stage-2 European standards.

The Makita MM4 sets new standards for engines of this size. The lightweight magnesium alloy diecast clutch casing and sump pan also reduces the overall engine size. The patented wet-sump lubrication system harnesses the crankcase air pressure changes to pulse-drive the lubricant around the engine for protection and long service life. This removes the risk of a mechanical pump running short of oil as the motor is tipped at steep angles in use. Makita MM4 brush cutters can be used safely at the steepest angles. The heart of the MM4 engine is the hard chrome plated cylinder and high-silicone aluminium alloy piston coupled with the sintered metal cam gear driving pushrods for the overhead valve train. This high performance design delivers a punchy 1.4hp for the 33.5cc engine, 710kw power output for the 25.4cc unit, and an equally impressive 3.75hp from the 75.6cc engine on the back-pack blower.

Running quietly on straight unleaded fuel, and controlled by solid state electronic ignition that automatically monitors and adjusts to suit throttle opening position and engine load, the MM4 has the cleanest running emissions in class and easily exceeds the tough global standards. Similarly, fuel consumption is 40% better than the equivalent 2-stroke and overall running costs are 60% better over 250-300 hours average operation per year to that of a 2-stroke brushcutter of the same capacity.

Makita’s technology advances make the MM4 the most powerful, lightest and cleanest running petrol engine available and further enhances the quality, reliability and performance of ground care products in the Makita Outdoor Product Equipment range.
