Just 50 miles away from the Olympic stadium the latest Sports Legacy Zone is being unveiled by former Olympian Steve Backley in Mill Park, Bracknell.

This investment in the Olympic legacy by Bracknell Town Council, Bracknell Forest Homes and Bracknell Forest Council, including the latter’s Aiming High for Disabled Children scheme, is a prime example of how cash-strapped local authorities have fought hard to play their part in helping to secure a lasting legacy from last year’s Olympic Games.

Proludic’s Managing Director, Michael Hoenigmann has been working closely with many Local Authorities, Parish and Town Councils trying to square this circle.

“We conducted research across 40 UK Local Authorities to look at how we could best help them to deliver legacy projects such as the one at Mill Park in Bracknell,” explains Michael.

“Funding was obviously the key issue for many, but so were more practical issues such as finding appropriate sites or allocating staff time to carry out the necessary community consultations.

“As a result, it’s been harder work than it perhaps would have been in better economic conditions, but we’ve been able to find sources of funding and also provide the additional expertise to bring projects to fruition.

Michael believes that this extra effort is proving worthwhile.

"Research from other communities where this scheme has been installed shows that the numbers of people taking part in regular exercise increase by as much as 52%" 

“Increasing participation in sport and physical exercise was promised as a key part of the Games’ legacy and with schemes like this we’re helping to keep that promise.”
