Grass seed trials at Elmwood supported by Rigby Taylor
SCOTLAND’S Rural College (SRUC) Elmwood Campus, is working in partnership with Rigby Taylor, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of greenkeeping products.
Rigby Taylor has supplied the Elmwood Campus with grass seed to develop research and trial areas at the Elmwood Golf Course, based near Stratheden, Fife.
Elmwood is known internationally for education in greenkeeping and golf-related courses.
The continuous trials will enhance the learning experience of more than 60 students from the Elmwood Campus - as well as staff from the golf course who are also involved in the project.
Trial plots are made of three-metre squares, and students are responsible for seeding, establishing and growing the grasses.
Plots will also be used to mix different grass varieties with the Higher National Level students being involved in research and development. This will enrich their learning and deepen their understanding of sports turf.
Andy Menmuir, Rigby Taylor technical advisor in NE Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working with Elmwood and look forward to some very interesting results.”
Greg Kilgour, Elmwood deputy manager of education, research and environmental matters, said: “We are very grateful to Rigby Taylor for their support and look forward to our students sharing the results from the grass seed trials at Elmwood Golf Course.”
