An immediate hire requirement gives Volvo DD24 an opportunity at Blythewood
With its existing fleet of double drum rollers all allocated out on hire and another pressing requirement from one of its important clients Blythewood Plant Hire decided to break with tradition and order a DD24 roller from Volvo.
“We had just taken the DD24 on evaluation trials to see how it stacked up against our existing brand choice when this particular hire came up from our Peterborough depot, so with this, coupled to our long standing experience operating Volvo mini excavators, we decided to take their DD24 double drum roller on spec,” said Operations Director Dave Hazell. “Certainly the attention to detail in the design and the overall build quality of the DD24 look impressive and providing it proves itself over the coming months it will certainly be a model we will be adding more of to our fleet moving forward,” he continued.
The Volvo DD24 double drum compactor weighs in at 2.6 tonnes and features a drum width of 1.2 metres. The drums feature dual frequencies operating at either 55Hz or 67 Hz for optimal impact and delivering nominal amplitude of .53 cm. A 260 litre pressurized water feed system is directed via four nozzles per drum working in conjunction with spring loaded, self adjusting urethane wipers. The DD24 affords excellent visibility to the drum edges forward and backward for the machine operator. The machined drum surface with radiused and chamfered edges produce a professional quality finish on each job and a closed loop hydrostatic drive system provides seamless direction changes and a maximum speed of up to 10 kph.
Originating as an in-house plant department for Doyle Plc, Blythewood has evolved into a modern progressive supplier of plant, tools and accommodation hire supplying construction companies, builders and the DIY market. The Company operates a fleet of compact excavators, tele-handlers ranging from 7mt to 12.5mt, dumpers, rollers, access equipment and site accommodation. With its headquarters located in Stevenage Herts, Blythewood Plant Hire has hire outlets at its Stevenage HQ, Leyton in East London, Peterborough and Warrington.
