Wicksteed’s creative capabilities know no bounds… breathing new life into a play area is exactly what they do, but breathing fire, surely not? Hard to believe perhaps, but a huge dragon’s head has been specially created from within the vaults of the Northamptonshire-based company’s young design team’s buzzing hub to emerge  on a children’s play area in Cambridge!

Situated in Coleridge Road Rec, one of the largest playing fields in the area, and totally bespoke, the bodyless creature with bulging eyes and flaring nostrils, is a truly eye-catching sight.

Constructed using glass reinforced concrete, manufactured in sections and brought onto site for final installation, this is the first of its kind anywhere in the UK. The imposing 4m high Dragon’s head has many facets to it which are obvious from the outset yet some finer complexities are hidden within the cavernous depths of the massive beast. 

It is bound to make children - aged 8 years upwards - extra excited about visiting their local playground but it might just have them quivering in their trainers on the first approach!  Great outdoor play provision is all about excitement; challenging those perceived boundaries and offering innovative ways through which kids can develop both physical and mental skills.  What could be more fun, more imaginative and more enticing than the sight of a gigantic Dragon rearing its head up through the playground surfacing?! It really has to be seen to be believed!
