2010 saw the successful launch of Oxy-Rush. Oxy-Rush supplies an oxygen source for aerobic “oxygen using bacteria” microbes. 2011 has seen fantastic results in reducing thatch and black layer, while producing a much stronger root system.
Now used as part of a monthly maintenance programme to increase the O2 levels in the rootzone. As soon as soil temperatures increase, turf managers are applying Oxy-Rush with their other products such as wetting agents, seaweeds and soil conditioners. By applying Oxy-Rush on a monthly basis throughout the growing season, greenkeepers have seen stronger rooting and a greater increase in nutrient availability.
“It is a simple process, by applying Oxy-Rush you are supplying the aerobic bacteria with a much needed oxygen source, they in turn multiply dramatically. A healthy microbial population will produce a continual source of CO2, nutrients, and water for root up-take, the plants produce a stronger root system. This continual cycle improves the growing medium helping it become much more efficient”.
The lack of oxygen in the rootzone encourages more anaerobic conditions, and therefore an increase in anaerobic bacteria, which are much less effective in breaking down organic matter, and thatch.
We have all seen a green up around a tine hole, a day or so after aeration, this is because we have suddenly helped the oxygen using microbes become much more prolific. They in turn produce CO2, and solubilise nutrients for root up take, all we need to do is produce this effect over the whole surface, on a regular basis, which is difficult when just using tines.
Facts to remember:
Plants get approximately 80% of their required CO2 from the soil, this can only be achieved in a well aerated soil.
Aerobic bacteria out compete pathogenic bacteria, which will result in less disease pressure.
Oxy-Rush compliments all aeration practices, and in some cases has had to replace them, where greenkeepers are under pressure not to put holes in the ground, applications of Oxy-Rush have proved invaluable.
