Ultrascape’s Mortar Paving System Revitalises Kettering’s Market Place

Ultrascape’s BS 7533 compliant Mortar Paving System is being used to help transform Kettering Town Centre’s Market Place into a vibrant civic space.

The £2.2 million project began in October 2010 and includes the development of new, pedestrian-friendly public areas and transport improvements to reduce congestion. The re-designed Market Place is part of ambitious regeneration plans to enhance the town centre that will ensure Kettering is a focal point for Northamptonshire.

The vision is to remove the through traffic from Market Street and Sheep Street and extend the town’s pedestrianised zone into those areas.

The work is being carried out by Civil Engineers Balfour Beatty who are delivering comprehensive improvements to the appearance, landscaping, lighting and parking facilities. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of summer 2011.

Ultrascape’s Pro-Bed HS Fine Bedding Concrete, Pro-Prime Slurry Primer and Flowpoint Rapid Setting Grout have been used to lay the 7,700m² of Charcon blocks, Granite Setts and Sand Stones in and around the Market Place to meet the rigors of BS 7533.

Ultrascape Pro Bed HS fine bedding concrete is being supplied in 30 tonne bulk silos. Perfect for large scale pedestrianisation schemes where high volumes of bedding concrete are required at the touch of a button. It provides a bedding base that conforms to the strict requirements of BS 7533.

Ultrascape Pro-Prime Slurry Primer is specifically formulated to provide an exceptional bond of greater than 2N/mm² between all types of stone. It only requires the simple addition of water before it can be applied to the stone elements.

Ultrascape Flowpoint, a rapid setting flowable grout, is formulated for early trafficking and can be poured over paved areas and simply washed away, with no risk of staining. It contains recycled glass thus reducing the use of virgin aggregate and can be opened to foot traffic after only one hour due to its setting properties.

From fine bedding concrete and slurry primers to high performance flowable grouts and surface protection liquids, all Ultrascape materials conform to the British Standard (BS 7533 parts 7 & 12, pavements constructed with clay, natural stone or concrete pavers).
