Keeping the public safe during ice, snow and plunging temperatures is of paramount importance but those responsible for keeping walkways clear for pedestrians do have an alternative to rock salt.

“Liquid ice melt does not leave a residue so if it is used near entrances it won’t show up on the carpet when walked in on people’s shoes,” explains Marcus. “It may be more expensive than rock salt but it can save having to replace flooring. It is also far less corrosive so does not damage vulnerable machinery such as lifts and escalators.”

Liquid ice melt is also easy to use – just a matter of pouring into a sprayer – and applying according to the instructions. It also takes less space to store, and can be left in the sprayer so it may be applied in an instant. It may be used at lower temperatures (up to -25Oc) than salt; also ten litres can treat up to 1,800 sq metres.

“Another advantage,” concludes Marcus “is that liquid ice melts will not kill vegetation. This, the avoidance of corrosion and the protection of valuable carpets make liquid ice melts an attractive alternative to rock salt.”

Application may be either a push sprayer, or a knapsack sprayer.
